About Internet Explorer

Microsoft's Internet Explorer, formerly known as Windows Internet Explorer, is a defunct series of graphical web browsers included with Microsoft's successful Windows operating system.

Launched in 1995, Internet Explorer was formerly the most popular web browser for accessing the Internet, with a usage share of over 95% by 2003. Microsoft spent over $100 million per year developing Internet Explorer, with over 1,000 employees working on the project by 1999.In the United States, Internet Explorer still has a market share of about 2.5%. Although the IE browser has improved over time, it is no longer the default Windows 10 and will phase out support for IE 11 in August 2021.

Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) was initially built to browse a wide range of online sites and provide some operating system capabilities, such as Microsoft Update. Due to its inclusion as a Windows component and the long-term lifecycle of Windows Server 2019, Internet Explorer will continue to receive security updates for at least the next decade.
