Who Creates RTM in Testing?

Test Engineers prepare the Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM) for the purpose of testing in software. The Test Engineers are responsible for producing an RTM for each module of software. These separate RTMs are combined into one complete document by the Test Lead after being developed.

The following describes the participants in developing an RTM:

• Test Engineers: Test Engineers develop RTMs for all modules available, linking each requirement to the test cases.
• Test Lead: Test Lead compiles RTMs coming from several modules into one and makes all requirements traceable from the testing process.

The RTM is necessary for all testing and validation to be performed against all software requirements so that there can be visibility of the testing process and assurance for software quality in delivery.
