How do I run a system check on my Mac machine?

If you suspect your MacBook might have hardware problems, running Apple Diagnostics or a system check on it can be worthwhile. To run diagnostics on your MacBook, shut down the computer, press and hold the power button until your startup options appear, then press Command + D on the keyboard.

Whether your MacBook has an M1 or M2 chipset, it's easy to run Apple Diagnostics. To run diagnostics on your MacBook, follow these steps:

  • Shut down your Macbook.
  • Hold the power button till you see Loading Startup Options pop up.
  • To access the diagnostic utility quickly, hold down Command + D on the Startup Options screen. This will take about ten seconds, and the Mac will reboot into the diag tool.
  • Connect to your Wifi network by clicking on the Wifi icon in the top-right corner of the screen.
  • Select your preferred language and click OK to proceed.
  • Choose Run Online or I Agree to get started with the diagnostic tests on the next screen.
